The Best POS for your restaurant

Running a Restaurant in Quebec? Your POS Needs to Do More Than Print Receipts.
From juggling staff, inventory, and bookings to handling taxes and tips, your restaurant’s point-of-sale system (POS) is the operational core of your business.
But if you’re based in Quebec, there’s one more critical layer: government compliance.
Unlike most other provinces, Quebec restaurant owners must comply with Revenu Québec’s fiscal regulations — or risk serious fines.

    Understanding POS Compliance in Quebec

Until recently, most restaurants in Quebec were required to use a Sales Recording Module (SRM) — also called MEV (Module d'enregistrement des ventes) — a physical device that connects to your POS to record all transactions for Revenu Québec.

But as of 2023–2025, a major shift is underway:

Revenu Québec is replacing MEV/SRM with cloud-based POS integration.

This new solution is called the “MEV en ligne” system and is being rolled out in phases.

If You're Opening or Upgrading — Here's What to Know:

    1. Your POS must be certified or compatible with MEV en ligne

Check that your system is on Revenu Québec’s approved list or offers integration.

    2. It must generate electronic invoices (with QR codes and digital proof)

This is now a legal obligation, not just a nice-to-have.

    3. The POS must handle:

    • Split bills & tips

    • GST + QST reporting

    • Revenu Québec’s transaction transmission protocols

POS Features to Look For (Beyond Compliance)

Once you’ve cleared the regulatory hurdle, you want a POS that also helps you grow and operate more efficiently:

Easy menu customization Online ordering integration (Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.) Inventory and supplier tracking Employee scheduling and timeclock Tip distribution and payroll export Multilingual interface (English + French)

Your Competitors Are Using AI Already, They Just Don’t Call It That

Artificial intelligence has become one of the most discussed technologies of the last few years. Headlines often focus on futuristic applications: self-driving cars, advanced robotics, or sophisticated chatbots capable of writing code and generating images. For many small business owners, this type of coverage can make AI feel distant — something designed for tech giants and global corporations rather than everyday businesses. But the reality is quite different. In fact, many companies are already using AI in their operations without even realizing it.

    Why AI matters

Every week, we talk to small business owners who are curious about AI. And almost every conversation starts the same way. Not with excitement. With anxiety. “I keep hearing about AI but I don’t know where to start.” “It feels like it’s for big tech companies, not for someone like me.” “I’m worried I’ll make the wrong move and fall behind.” That anxiety is completely understandable. And it’s also, we’d argue, largely manufactured.
